Storm Elli prompted authorities to alert train passengers in Baden-Wurttemberg state to anticipate delays and cancellations extending through Saturday.

Near Ziesar on the A2 motorway, a car skidded on frozen pavement, struck barriers, then slammed into a truck, leaving three occupants critically wounded.
The Berlin-bound motorway remained closed for multiple hours after 500 liters of diesel fuel from the vehicle contaminated the roadway.
Major traffic paralysis plagued the motorway system throughout the Braunschweig region following trucks obstructing roadways.
Police have issued urgent warnings advising motorists to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
