Greece, Cyprus, Israel agree to strengthen military ties

(MENAFN) Greece, the Greek Cypriot Administration, and Israel have agreed to expand their cooperation in defense and security, officials said Monday.

At a joint press conference with visiting Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated: “We agreed today to deepen our cooperation in security and defense.” He emphasized that the trilateral partnership is not aimed at confronting any country, adding: “Look, we’re not seeking confrontation with anyone. On the contrary, we seek stability, prosperity, and peace.”

Mitsotakis highlighted the long-standing collaboration between the three nations, calling the meeting their 10th trilateral gathering and noting: “This is the 10th trilateral meeting of our countries, and this shows the depth of our cooperation that has been tested by time and has proven resilient.” He also stressed the potential to enhance technology sector collaboration alongside military cooperation.

Christodoulides pointed to expanding partnerships in defense, security, tourism, and energy, noting the opportunities for further cooperation are limitless.

Israel has become a key arms supplier to both Athens and the Greek Cypriot Administration, providing advanced missiles, drones, and electronic warfare systems, while the Israeli military frequently conducts training exercises on their soil.
